Flip-Cup is Still Alive & Well with WAKA!

Not much has changed - Flip Cup is still a favorite pasttime of WAKA players:

And the winner still has to do the Worm... even if it looks more like a seal flopping towards the water instead of the Worm (no offense, Mike, but seriously? I've seen you do better!)

New Division...New Season...New Gossip

Hello Newbies & Veterans!!!!

Welcome to another fun season of WAKA Kickball! I do hope you have lots of fun this season by meeting new friends, reconnecting with old friends and of course getting a bit inebriated from playing flipcup, actually I hope you get a lot inebriated - it gives me something to write about.

I was supposed to be around last season and sadly I was not. I heard that I missed a lot of wonderful gossip like...a little Asian guy who loves to rub his nipples and several hookups. I bet you saying to yourself...who the hell is this person? I am a very important person to know in this league - but nobody knows me. I am DEEP THROAT! Who's deep throat? Well, if you ask anyone from CA Pacific division, I'm the person that reports on GMOT of the juicy gossip and scandals going on within the CA Pacific Division. I finally found a new home since CA Pacific is...I don't know what is going on with them! So I left and searched for a new home...here I am.

I am everywhere. So consider yourself warned. If you don't want to see yourself mentioned in this blog, then you should probably resort to acting like a boring, perfect, little angel. But if I know kickballers - you are NOT innocent! Nothing stays a secret in kickball. So if you are considering of having a secretive tryst with that cutie you will meet at the bar this Thursday, it will NOT be a secret by the next week!

Who likes who, who did what embarassing thing at the bar - all up for grabs! Don't forget...I have my little minions wandering around and WILL take pictures for me to post. You are not safe, no one is....MUWAHAHAHAHAHA.

Who is Deep Throat? That’s for me to know and you to NOT find out. To preserve the journalistic integrity of this column (and my super hero alter-ego), my identity must be kept a secret.

Please keep in mind that this column is just for fun - we will use discretion in posting anything that may cause any real harm ;-)

With that said...Happy Kickball!

Sent Scott to Taipei

Hello all,

The name's Scott and I'm the captain of the gold team. I'm writing this post asking for your support so I can attend the Deaflympics as part of the United States Deaf Water Polo team. I have established a fundraising website at www.giveforward.org/taipeibound.

Before I explain about the website, I would like to take the time and explain to you why I am asking for your support. As part of USDWP, one has to fundraise our own way seeing that we do not get any financial support. The cost of the trip that will begin on August 25th and run for three weeks is approximately $4,500. That will cover the round-trip flight from Los Angeles to Taipei, room and board for three weeks, and several miscellaneous expenses.

Now this is where you come in play, I am using GiveForward.org for several reasons. I used to intern there and with their support, they have allowed me to use their services at a low fee. All you need to do to contribute is to go to www.giveforward.org/taipeibound, and put down how much you want to contribute. From there, you will enter some information and I will be able to get your donation. Even 5 dollars helps me get closer to the funds needed. This is a tax-deductible donation and you will be presented with the USDWP tax id number.

We are shooting for the GOLD medal and with your support, we can achieve it! Do not hesitate to contact me with any questions. If you are willing to help, I am willing to help.

Where's The Love???

+

=

March 20th marks the official beginning of Spring, a season classically associated with renewal and rebirth, where the birds chirp and the flowers come out to bloom.
For the players of CA Big Surf, Spring couldn't come at a better time! The cold heart of Winter is beginning to thaw, and with it, the thought of love ... or maybe kickball lust ... is starting to fill the air.

At Skybox, questions are flying around like little red cups about the relationship status of various players. Whether you're newly single or perennially unattached, now is a great time to go talk to that boy or girl you've been wondering about. Kickball hookups have been well documented in the past, Kelsey and Joel, Phil and Liz, Mark Correa and ... well, anything that moved, basically ... who will be next to take their place amongst kickball's power couples? You never know, it might be you!

Who has seen Top Gun??

So at the Sky Box bar last night, there was a question asked if the song 'The Eye of the Tiger" was in any other movie besides Rocky. Well the movie Top Gun came up. Come to find out, of the 5 people in the conversion, one had never seen Top Gun!! WHAT?? never seen Top Gun with Tom Cruise....come on now....

Mid-Season Madness!

Our kickball season is off and running!

A great game was played by all on Thursday. We are really starting to see some people shine on the kickball field. Hmmm...I wonder which players will be voted into the All-Star game? Better start your campaigning now!

As we get closer to the playoffs, the tension is rising and the stakes are getting bigger. Which team will ultimately take on the glory of being reigning CA Big Surf champions? We will soon find out. Thus far we have the red team in first place, the blue and black team tied for second, and the yellow team bringing up the rear. But there are still many games to be played and many scores to be evened; no team's standing is safe!

Kickballers wreaking havoc at Sky Box Sports Grill after the games continued for yet another week. On Thursday evenings the Sky Box Sports Grill is transformed into a blur of red, yellow, blue and black shirts, all centered around the sacred "flip cup" table. Voices are raised, tears are shed, and beer is chugged, but in the end its all worth it to see your fellow kickballers doing "The Worm" across the 10+ foot long flip cup table.

Don't forget that the mid-season party is Saturday March 7 from 2-5 p.m. at Players Sports Bar, located at 7061 Clairemont Mesa Blvd. We will also be at Boomers (across the parking lot from Players) starting at 1 p.m. How can you possibly turn down an afternoon full of go karts, miniature golf, bumper boats, laser tag and drinking?

P.S - Did somebody say something about an 80's prom theme for the end of season party? ;)

Week 2 of Kickball!

It's only week 2 and the Kickball shenanigans are already in full force!

Last Thursday turned out to be a *mostly* rain free night so we were able to enjoy our games without being covered in mud from head to toe. (My white sneakers have yet to recover from the first muddy game)

Everyone seems to be getting use to the game and picking up on the rules, although most of us are still puzzled by that crazy strike zone. I'm guessing the person who decided on that strike zone was a reaaaally bad pitcher and was trying to make himself look better!

After the game a bunch of people migrated over to the Sky Box Sports Bar. It's kind of hard to find (and Thursday night it was hidden behind an 18 wheeler that was parked out front) but it's well worth the trip. For those of you having trouble finding the place the address is 4805 Clairemont Drive, San Diego, CA 92117.

This was the first week at the bar without "Open Mic" night, so we basically had the bar all to ourselves. You couldn't help but feel bad last week when people were on stage trying to read poetry or sing the love song they had written to the tune of 20 loud and slightly buzzed kickballers playing a rowdy game of flip cup in the background. It was quite a scene.

The yellow team is seriously representing at the bar. They have some hardcore flip cup players. We can't let them outnumber us like that! Hopefully next week we will see more players from the black team at the bar! Yes, that was a shamless plug for my own team. Everyone should try and make it out to the bar after a game at some point; you're almost guaranteed to have more fun at the games if you know your fellow teammates better.

The flip cup drama is already starting. The word is that a Cat Fight broke out at the flip cup table between two ladies from competing teams. Stay tuned to find out what happens next week when these ladies go head to head in another flip cup game.

More details on the mid-season party are coming soon!

Welcome to De Blog

Hello Everyone,

RJ here, your VP with the mostest.

Welcome to the blog! Captains and board members have post access, or can get it. We'll keep this light and fun, but that doesn't mean that we can't talk smack to the other teams.

We'll have some articles, and should generally have a great time here.
